A Simple Restaurant Date Showed Me My Boyfriend's True Colors

We had been dating for six months, and I genuinely thought he was the most caring and gentle guy ever. He was always so sweet to me that I never imagined he could have a dark side. But a single moment at a restaurant changed everything and opened my eyes.

We were out on a normal dinner date, and everything was going great until we started ordering. The waiter accidentally misheard one small thing, which is a very common mistake.

But in that split second, my boyfriend’s entire attitude changed. In a very low, harsh voice, he snapped:

"Huh? Were you even listening properly?"

The waiter immediately started apologizing over and over again, but my boyfriend wouldn't stop. He looked down on the poor guy and said:

"This is why part-timers are so useless. Just hurry up with the food."

I felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable sitting across from him. I whispered to him, "Hey, you don’t have to speak to him like that." He just looked at me and said:

"But it’s his mistake. We are paying customers, so this is completely normal."

That word—"normal"—gave me the chills. It felt so wrong. The next day, I talked to my friends to see if I was just overreacting. One of my friends agreed with me instantly. She said, "That is a massive red flag. The way someone treats service staff shows their real character. If he can be that cruel to a stranger, he can do it to you too."

However, another friend thought differently and said, "Well, people do get frustrated when orders are wrong, so maybe it was just a bad day."

But I couldn't shake the feeling off. I realized something very important that night.

You can easily judge a person's true nature by looking at how they treat people who are in a weaker position, like waiters, cleaners, or drivers.

My boyfriend was only kind to me because he loved me and wanted to impress me. But the way he treated someone he saw as "beneath" him was his real face.

If someone is only nice when it benefits them, they aren't truly a nice person. I knew right then and there that I couldn't be with someone like that.
